John Hobson moved to Tillamook in the year 1885 he was a Clatsop plains pioneer looking for work at the local salmon cannery. With him Hobson brought cattle and the knowledge to start up a postal service. He named the town after his sister, Emma Hobson, who later went on to marry a man by the name of Ninion Alcany Eberman and one child. The couple’s child, William Eberman, delivered mail from Seaside to Tillamook using the Neah-Kah-Nie mountain trail for four years before settling down with his wife Willa Stillwell and having five children of his own.
