Elliot Family

The Elliot family traveled from New York to Milwaulkie, Oregon in 1847. Francis Marion Elliot had a son, Frank Elliot, who moved to Tillamook in 1871. He helped to lay bricks on Front street and later went on to catch and sell fish for Leinenwebers cannary.
Harry's grandfather was born in New York and his grandmother was Jane Winters and she was from London. His grandparents met and married in New York. They left New York and moved to Tennesse right after the civil war. Harry was not su...rehow long they stayed in Tennesse before they came to the west in their own covered wagon. The Elliott's ended up in Portland and then shortly therafter moved to Tillamook. Where they bought a donation land claim on the Kilchis River around 1871. When the elliott family moved from Portland to Tillamook they came on saddle horses. Everyone either walked or rode a horse to Tillamook. Harry's father and mother were Charles Elliott and Mabel brown. Harry is not sure what or why his family came to Tillamook.

Harry has a story where his family took their own teams and horses and drove them over the Trask Mountain to go to the 1905 Exposition. They made it fine to their grandparents house in Yamhill and stayed the night. The following morning they had forgotten to wake up Harry and went onto Portland without him. he had to stay with his grandparents for about a week until they had come back. Then they wenthome to Tillamook.
When harry was 12 a couple gentlemen brought a 22 rifle to him and anothe rboy and told him they needed to learn to shoot it. After, about a half hour of instruction Harry thought he was pretty good. The gentlemen had left and not been gone too long when there was an accident. The gun went off and the bullet hit him in the chest. They had a family doctor come over and said he should go to the hospital the next day. So, he did just that. he ended up staying for 10 days in the hospital. They found the bullet in his back and they left it there. I am not sure who exactly but, someone felt bad for what had happened to Harry and they gave him a colt and Harry said she wsa a dandy horse.
